She was born in Greybull, Wyoming, to parents Otto and Doris Gernant on April 2, 1948. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Emblem, Wyoming. Kathy attended elementary school in Emblem and graduated from Greybull High School in 1966.
She went on to become a registered nurse, graduating from St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Billings, Montana, in 1969. Her nursing career began on a pediatric unit in a Casper, Wyoming, hospital. She also worked as a nurse at the University of Wyoming, at several different skilled nursing facilities, and finally worked as a home health nurse in Colorado and Wyoming.
Kathy will always be remembered as a caring and compassionate nurse. Following and watching sports was a true passion of Kathy’s. The Atlanta Braves, Wyoming Cowboys, and Greybull Buffaloes all held a special place in her heart. She loved “family get-togethers” and was always ready to play cards as she was an avid pinochle player.
She was preceded in death by her father, Otto Gernant.
Kathy is survived by her mother Doris Gernant of Powell; brother Howard (Carol) of Greybull; sister Fern of Tucson, Arizona, and brother DuWayne of Longmont, Colorado. She will also be missed by aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Powell. Committal will be at Emblem Cemetery at 2 p.m. on March 2.
