(Nov. 8, 1921 - Feb. 1, 2017)

Minnie Catherine Moser, of Cody, died Feb. 1, 2017, at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell. She was 95.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1921, in Elmo, Missouri, to Margaret Elizabeth Canton and Elmer LeRoy Ecker. Minnie was the eldest of eight children, and was a great older sister to her four sisters and three brothers.

Minnie, her brother, Bill, and her parents moved to Lawndale, California, in 1925. Minnie graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1939 as valedictorian. Ironically, many of Minnie’s classmates were sent to the Heart Mountain Relocation Center three years later.

Minnie attended college in Compton, California, then worked at Northrup Aircraft Corporation in Hawthorne, California. She met the love of her life, Leo Matthew Moser, at a dance. They were married on May 16, 1942, at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, California.

Minnie and Leo had four children — Philip James in 1943, Richard Floyd in 1946, Theresa Elizabeth in 1949 and Colette Ann in 1952.

Minnie raised her children with great love, infinite patience, kindness and generosity. She constantly volunteered at school and church. In 1970, Leo was transferred to Pascagoula, Mississippi. Minnie worked at Sears, selling appliances and sewing machines. In Mississippi, they lived through alligators and hurricanes and visited with children and grandchildren.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1992. After Leo’s passing in 1994, Minnie moved to Cody.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents; two sisters and three brothers.

Minnie is survived by all her children, Philip (Aylene) of Sherman Oaks, California, Richard (Jody) of Cody, Theresa of Cody and Colette (Wayne) Williams of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Orpha Lay and Barbara McGowan and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a vigil service at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cody and a funeral Mass Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s, followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery.

Ballard Funeral Home in Cody is in charge of arrangements.
