Robert Lee ‘Bob’ Linville

Robert Lee “Bob” Linville, 88, of Cody, died Sept. 6, 2016, at West Park Hospital.

Bob was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Grafton, Nebraska, to Robert Smith Linville and Glee Mowry Linville. He spent most of his youth in Lance Creek, Wyoming. While in high school, he worked on workover and drill rigs in Lance Creek. After graduating from Lusk High School in June 1945, he enlisted in the Navy. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He also attended Doans College and Notre Dame. He worked for Wyoming Well Service where he met and married Ramona “Mona” Sally Thompson in 1952.

In 1953 he went to work for Marathon Pipeline Company. Bob was there for 30 years, during which time he traveled the world for his work.

He and his family moved frequently, including Geneva, Switzerland. While there, he worked in the Middle East oil fields. Some of the later years of his life he spent the summer running Spirit Lake Lodge in the high Uinta Mountains with Mona. After his retirement, Bob and Mona lived in Cody.

Of his many hobbies he loved boating, hunting, skiing (water and snow), and especially flying his airplane. He got his license in 1959 and flew for a good 35 years.

He is survived by his wife Mona; three sons: Bob of Flaming Gorge, Utah, Tom from Powell, Tim from California; two granddaughters; four greatgrandchildren; brother Galen from Lexington; and sister Sharon Mangus of Glenrock.

Cremation services have been entrusted with Ballard Funeral Home.
