Raymond J. Lutterman, 86, died Nov. 24, 2016, at the New Horizon Care Center in Lovell.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1930, in Blackwell, Wisconsin, to Emery and Minnie (Schmidt) Lutterman. Ray was raised and educated in Wisconsin, graduating in 1948. 

He received a football scholarship from the University of Wyoming and played from 1950-51 and ’54-55. During this time, he was all conference captain of the team (tackle). He played in the Sun Bowl and the Gator Bowl.

Ray married Bonnie Jean Loomis Aug. 6, 1955. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1956 with honors. Ray then went into the U.S. Military. He served in Fort Ord, California, and Korea as a supply clerk.  During the time in Fort Ord, he played football with the Fort Ord Warriors. 

While serving his country, his first child Scott was born. Ray returned to Laramie, joined the ROTC and received his commission as a 2nd lieutenant and went to Fort Benning, Georgia.   

In August 1957, Ray and Bonnie moved to Casper where he coached football, wrestling and track. During this time their first daughter, Lisa, was born. In 1961 they moved to the Loomis ranch, and in 1962 another daughter, Lori, was born. 

Ray went back to Laramie in 1965 and received his master’s degree in physical education. They had their fourth child, Heidi, making their family complete.

Ray and his family then moved to Powell, where he was the recreation director for six years, then later became general commissioner and was there for 17 years. 

Ray and Bonnie moved to Oregon and Washington, then back to Wyoming, which he always considered to be home.

He is survived by his children Scott (Lorri) Lutterman, Lisa Lutterman, Lori (Al) Young and Heidi Lutterman; grandchildren Trevor (Tana) Lutterman, Amy (Quint) Gonzales, Kristina Robison, Amber (Brandon) Mangus, Jessica Rael (Dani), Sara (Shane) Walker, Haylee Young, Jash (Kristen) Lutterman, Tessa Lutterman; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lovell. Burial will be in the Wheatland Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 29.

    Ray was such a kind man. One of my favorite memories from living in Powell was when Ray went with my family (the kids were very young) on a Christmas tree hunt outside of Cody. That was 30 some years ago, Ray definitely made an impression on us.
