Edward Allyn Hughes died Nov. 5, 2016.
He was born in Denver in 1950 to Margaret Blackburn Hughes and Byron Charles Hughes.
Ed moved to Cody while he was in high school. There he met his first wife, Susan Smith, whom he married in 1973. They had two sons, Steven Edward and Joseph Daniel, while attending college in Laramie.
Ed moved back to Cody in 1980 with his family. Ed and Susan later divorced.
He opened the Edward Jones office in Cody in 1980 and built a successful practice. He retired in 2005.
Ed met his second wife, Rusty, in Cody, and they were married in 1994, welcoming Amber and Justin into the family.
Ed was all about family. He never missed any event his children or grandchildren were involved in — he was their most loyal supporter. He spent many weekends in Laramie watching the Pokes.
He enjoyed serving as a high school football referee in Wyoming and Montana, and he also loved skiing.
Ed was generous and helped people in many ways. He understood the meaning of hard work and diligence. His daily quote was “Life is what you make, nothing more and nothing less.”
He was so excited about the two newest family members, Addison Hughes and Jackson Hughes, both born in 2016.
Ed is survived by his wife, Rusty; son Steve (Kelly), and their daughter Addison, of Portland, Oregon; and son J.D. (Latifa), and their son Jackson, of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by daughter Amber Boysen (Rob), and their children Megan, Ally, Kristen, and Hannah of Cody, and son Justin Davis (Kindra), and their children Madi and Bella, of Loveland, Colorado; sisters Rose Shearer (Walt) of Claremont, California, Suzanne; and brother Byron, both of Colorado; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy.
Cremation has taken place. A vigil will be held Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cody and a funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s. A celebration of life will follow at the Olive Glenn Country Club.
