Allen D. Shanafelt

Allen D. Shanafelt, 66, died at home on Sept. 10, 2016, with his beloved wife Lynne by his side.

He was born Jan. 18, 1950.

Allen attended and graduated from Powell High School and Northwest College in Powell.

After moving to Washington state, Allen attended Eastern Washington University in Spokane, Washington, and graduated with his bachelor of arts degree in applied sociology. Allen graduated with his master’s degree in public administration from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. He retired from a career with the state of Washington after 32 years in January 2012.

Allen had been an active member of the Olympia chapter of the mountaineers and enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing and kayaking.

Allen especially enjoyed fly fishing, fly tying, and building fly rods. Allen loved photography and completed the Washington State University master gardeners course. He had a strong interest in military documentaries. He loved cooking, his family, and his dogs Jack and Abby.

Allen leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Lynne; two sons, Caleb Shanafelt of Austin, Texas, and Gabe Shanafelt (JoAnna) of Olympia, Washington; two granddaughters, Emma and Mallory of Olympia, Washington; two siblings of Seguin, Texas, Larry Shanafelt and Janice Bowman (Ken); brother-in-law Richard Guthrie of Kerrville, Texas and sister-in-law Janet Hoffman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; as well numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Edward and Minnie Blanche Shanafelt.
