Cyrus Karl Muecke, 63, of Powell, died on Aug. 30, 2016, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Cy was born Sept. 5, 1952, to Hans and Helen (Bock) Muecke in Powell.
Cy graduated from Powell High School with the Class of 1970, and went on to NWC for a year. After some college, he went to work at Food Basket IGA where he cut meat for many years. While he worked there, he met the love of his life, Kelly (McPherson) Muecke, and they married Jan. 9, 1976.
To this union they have two wonderful children, Bethany and Ryan.
After leaving Food Basket, Cy went to work at Ralston Processing, where he worked until moving on to Marathon Oil. He worked as a mechanic for Marathon for 25 years and took early retirement. This retirement was short lived once he saw Kelly’s “honey do” list; he went back to work and remained at Whiting Petroleum as a pumper for the next 15 years.
Kelly, Beth and Ryan were the loves of his life. They have always been a very close family, and cherish all the times spent with each other. They are extremely thankful to have gotten to spend much time together at the end of his life. He passed comfortably at his home, surrounded by the ones who loved him most, knowing how much he was loved by so many people.
Cy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors and being in the mountains. You could often find him and Kelly out for a day drive to North Fork, Sunlight, or the Beartooth Mountains to enjoy the scenery and look at the critters. He loved to go camping and made many wonderful memories in the hills as a family. When he wasn’t in the mountains, Cy enjoyed tinkering around in his new shop. He cherished the time spent with friends and family and adored his grandchildren (and the feeling was completely mutual). It was not an uncommon sight to see Papa throwing the grandkids up in the air, and hearing the screams and laughter fill the air.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Helen Muecke, his grandparents, Karl and Julia Muecke, and Cyrus and Ruth Bock, his father-in-law, Lindy McPherson, and sister-in-law, Linda King.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kelly; his daughter Bethany (Mark) Schledewitz, his son Ryan (Christy) Muecke, his brothers Georg (Barb) Muecke, James (Bonita) Muecke, Paul (Kimberly) Muecke, and his sisters, Susan (Chip) Lowery, and Miriam (Dirk) Currey. He also leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren, Hudson and Rilee Schledewitz, and Curtis, Tucker, and Charlee Muecke, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services for Cy will be Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church, 329 N. Bent Street in Powell. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cy’s name.
