(Oct. 25, 1917 - Aug. 17, 2016)

Faie Isobel Voss Gould, a Powell resident since 1948, passed away in Salt Lake City, on Aug. 17, 2016, where she stayed following a stroke last December. She was 98 years old.

Faie was born on Oct. 25, 1917 to Albert H. Voss and Grace Horsely Voss on a farm outside of Worland, and when she was 5 moved with her family to Greybull.

She graduated from Greybull High School in 1935 and Colorado Women’s College in 1937, after which she taught grade school in  one-room schoolhouses in Burlington and Beaver Creek, Wyoming.

She eloped on March 4, 1939, to Townsend, Montana, with Earl Grayson Gould. She and Earl had to go out of state and keep their marriage secret until the end of the school year because female school teachers were not allowed to be married.

Following Earl’s military service in WWII, the family moved to Powell where Faie was a bookkeeper for Powell Lumber and an active volunteer with the Brownie Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Job’s Daughters and Sunday School at the First Methodist Church.

She enjoyed gardening  and sewing  and provided much for her family with her own two hands.

After Faie’s retirement, she served as a Park County voting judge for many years. She was politically engaged and kept up with the news and current events.

She and Earl traveled internationally. She was an avid bridge player, belonging to two groups at the Powell Senior Center in her later years. She worked the daily crossword puzzles until her stroke. She retained her mind, her concern for others  and her sense of humor until she died.

A cabin on the North Fork purchased in 1965 became the center of many happy and memorable times for Faie and Earl and their descendants and is still in the family today,  a source of continuing memories for their great-grandchildren.

Faie was the last of her generation, living for over 70 years after surviving breast cancer at 24.

She is survived by her children Grace (Gigi) Brandt (Richard), Salt Lake City and George Gould, Sacramento, California; and by four grandchildren, Kristin Brandt Campbell, Salt Lake City, Jared Brandt  (Tracey), El Cerrito, California, Heather Gould (Taylor Flynn), South Lake Tahoe, California, and Gretchen Gould, Cedar Falls, Iowa, four great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (June 1997), her parents, and a sister, Ruth Fletcher.

At Faie’s request, no funeral services are scheduled. Memorials may be sent to the Earl Gould Scholarship Fund, Northwest Community College, 231West Sixth Street, Powell, WY 82435, or the Powell Senior Center.
