Lorna Fry passed away March 11, 2016, in Spokane, Washington.

She was born December 22, 1925, in Billings, Montana, to Floyd and Gladys (Waggoner) Rains. Lorna was raised in the hills on the South Fork River near Cody, with siblings Pearl (Lange), Leroy and Dennis Rains. Her father died in a nearby coal mine early-on; the young family settled in Powell. A brother, Ivan Wolfe, and twins Janice (Stumpf) and Joe Malliot joined the family.

Lorna married Elmer Sand in 1942. They raised four boys on the Garland Flat before moving to Grant Orchards in Soap Lake, Washington, in 1954. Jerry, Bob, Glenn and Lonnie were joined by brothers Steve and Doug.

Elmer Sand died in September of 1979; their son Glenn died in December 2008.

She also is preceded in death by husband Glen Fry and brothers Leroy, Dennis and Joe.

Lorna always enjoyed working hard but her passion was playing the piano.

For many, a dog is a man’s best friend; they love you unconditionally and don’t talk back; but for Lorna, the piano was always her ardent companion. Music gave life meaning and fulfillment. Her honky-tonk piano was a line of communication to those around her and radiated joy to all who listened and danced to the music from her heart ... Play on, Mom.
