Julie Ann Havig, 57, died  Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. Julie passed away peacefully at the Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody after an incredibly brave and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Julie was born March 20, 1958, in Sidney, Montana, to Gerald and Kathleen Gunderson. She spent the majority of her young life in Sidney, later moving to Missoula, Montana, where she graduated high school in 1976. Julie moved to Powell in 1978 and married Dee Havig in 1979. Their love for each other resulted in two beautiful children, Jacob in 1982 and Sarah in 1983.

Julie always had a goal to finish her college degree and after studying two years at Northwest College, she transferred to the University of Wyoming where she graduated with honors in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She had a passion for helping others, working at Special Touch Preschool, Department of Family Services and Crisis Intervention. She was also the director of Northwest Wyoming Family Planning and finished her career as director of the Powell Senior Center. She was always proud of the fact that she was blessed to serve both young people and her beloved senior citizens.

Julie loved her two children more than anything in this world and had an extra special place in her heart for her two grandchildren, Lyla and Kash.

Julie loved her summer flowers, holidays, music and was a lifelong Oakland Raiders fan.

“Nana’s” loving smile, infectious laugh and the joy she brought to her loved one’s lives will be missed. She was loved by her family who wish to thank all who gave so generously in love, prayer and support during her fight with breast cancer.

Julie is survived by her husband, Dee; son, Jacob; daughter, Sarah; grandchildren, Lyla and Kash; parents, Gerald and Kathleen Gunderson; brother, Artie (Cindy) Gunderson; sister, Kristie Asay; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arthur and Florence Schmitz and Alfred and Berna Gunderson.
