Esther Lena (Romero) Downey died June 24, 2015, at the Sagewest Healthcare in Riverton. She was 79.
She was born April 23, 1936, in Riverton, daughter of Leo and Rosie (Giron) Romero. Riverton was where Esther grew up and attended schools.
On Nov. 16, 1957, Esther married Louis Paul Downey in Riverton. They lived on the family farm in the Missouri Valley.
Esther enjoyed spending her time with her family, gardening and tending to her flowers, and having “breakfast” at the casino.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, parents, brothers, Silfred, Baudie, Lloyd Leonard and John Romero.
Survivors include her friend and companion, Neil Aitken; sons, Paul J. Downey and his wife, Blair of Missouri Valley and Richard M. Downey of Huntley, Montana; daughter, Lillian R. Brazelton and her husband David of Powell; brother LeRoy Romero and his wife, Beverly of Riverton; sisters, Marge Allington, Mary Romero and Anne and her husband Dave Saunders all of Riverton; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Sarah, Miranda, Sydney, Louis, Nathan, Nicole, Bailie Johnson, Brian and Beth Brazelton.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church with Father Demetrio Penascoza officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Missouri Valley Fire Dept. would be appreciated in care of Davis Funeral Home.
