Edwin Leigh Akerson, 60, died May 13, 2015, at his home in Cody after a long battle with cancer. His wife, Jacqueline and daughters, Megan (Nate) Jones of Pleasanton, California, and Lynn Akerson of Cody were at his side.

Ed was born in Red Bluff, California, on July 18, 1954, and grew up in Chico, California. Ed served in the Navy as a radar technician throughout the WestPac on the destroyer tender USS Dixie.

He and wife Jackie were married April 8, 1982, at the Methodist Church in Cody. He was an “Ed of all trades” and worked as a welder, carpenter/contractor, truck driver and farmer in recent years, and in the oilfield industry earlier.

Throughout his life, Ed was always present with a smile and a story for every occasion. He was a stranger to few and was always willing to lend a hand. Most days he could be found outside whether fishing, hunting, farming, riding ATVs or simply enjoying the company of family and friends on the porch. He was very skilled with his hands fixing equipment, welding projects and building his own house.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters; one grandson (Jackson Leigh Jones); his father Edwin C. Akerson and two brothers, Russell and James Akerson of Chico.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother Naidenne, and two sisters Cindy Estes and Linda Patterson.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 18, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody.
