Blaine Walker Nelson, 87, died March 10, 2015, after a long illness. Blaine was born March 20, 1927, to Ole and Mable Nelson in Preston, Idaho. He was raised in North Platte, Neb.

He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 years of age and fought in the Philippines in WWII. He returned to Nebraska after the war and played college football, boxed and swam. 

He met Gloria Kamerzal from Scottsbluff and married in 1952. He was working for Standard Oil Co. when his father asked him to come to Cody to run Cassie’s. 

Blaine and Gloria raised three sons, Kim, Kory and Kirby. In 1969 he married Nettie Stump and continued to work until the age of 57 when he and Nettie retired to travel and enjoy their family. Blaine was a life member of the VFW, Elks Club 1611 and the Cody Lions.

Blaine is survived by his sons Kim (Carla) Nelson of Cody, Kirby (Carol) Nelson of Shepparton, Australia, step-daughters Lindy Stump of Cody, Cindy (Terry) Hardy of Billings, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria; wife Nettie; son Kory Nelson and stepson Mike Stump.

As per wishes cremation has taken place.

Memorial services for Blaine will be held on his birthday, Friday March 20, at 2 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home with reception at Cassie’s at 3 p.m. Flowers can be sent to Ballard’s Funeral Home or donations can be made to the Powell Medical Foundation, 777 Ave. H, Powell WY, 82435.
