Former Powell resident Minnie Blanche Shanafelt of Seguin, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015. She was 89.
Blanche was born on July 5, 1925, in Tuxedo, Texas, to George W. and Ruby Kate (Johns) Rivers.
Blanche and her husband Frank moved to Seguin in 1991 and were active members of First Baptist Church there.
Her beloved husband of 69 years Frank Edward Shanafelt preceded her in death as did her parents; her brother George W. Rivers, Jr.; sister Pauline (Joe) Carlton; brother-in-law Ralph Shanafelt; and great-grandson Skyler Ognoskie.
Survivors include her children Larry Shanafelt, Allen (Lynne) Shanafelt, and Janice (Kenny) Bowman; grandchildren Sally (Dustin) Tolbert, Rachel Martinez, Caleb Shanafelt, Gabe (JoAnna) Shanafelt, Genevieve (Brad) Lucas, and Evie Bowman and fiancé Aaron Adams; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Harvey Allen “Red” (Pat) Rivers and Milburn Clayton “Cotton” (Ann) Rivers; sister-in-law Adele Shanafelt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 9 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Brice Mandaville and Rev. Neil Kibbe officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.
