Richard Oliver Gormley, 83, of Burlington died on Jan. 11, 2015, in Cody, of complications from a stroke.

Richard was born June 23, 1931, in Burlington to Wesley Palmer Gormley and Theresa Martilla Preator.  

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1949 and attended Colorado State for a short time.  

Richard married Faith Aagard on Nov. 16, 1950, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for time and eternity. They were blessed with three children, Renae B., Randall Aagard and Richard Orlando, who died shortly after birth. 

Richard farmed, ran livestock and trucked in Burlington.

In 1961, the family moved to Olso, Minn., to pioneer the dry edible bean industry in the Red River Valley, with his brother, Wesley. The family moved to Grand Forks, N.D., in 1964. The business was sold in 1974, and they moved to Denver, where he stayed in the business with his son. Through all of his moving and travels he maintained the family homestead in Burlington.

Richard was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life, serving in many leadership positions. He served on many boards including Boy Scouts, and other businesses.

On Jan. 7, 1989, Richard’s wife of 38 years, Faith, died. He married Carolyn Haupt of Westminster, Colo., on March 23, 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Faith; son Richard; and six siblings.

Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn; children Renae (Craig) Hawker, Randall (Laurie); stepchildren, Mark (Barb) Haupt, Michael (Dana Bassett), Jennifer (John) Blechar; brother, Wesley L. (Elaine) Gormley; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Burlington LDS Church. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Interment will follow services at Burlington Cemetery.

Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell is in charge of arrangements.
