Maxine Asay Wambeke

Maxine Asay Wambeke, 84, of Deaver, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell. Maxine made her home in Deaver for the past 64 years. 

She was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Bonneville, to Leon and Mary Hilda Asay. She was the fifth of 11 children. Maxine attended school in Spence, Thermopolis, Douglas and Deaver. 

She met the love of her life, Frank Wambeke, at a community picnic on Pryor Mountain in 1944. They were married May 28, 1947, in Billings. 

She loved her life as a farmer’s wife. She could drive a beet truck or a tractor, irrigate or chase cows, and work side-by-side with Frank. Maxine and Frank had five children.

Maxine is survived by her husband Frank; her children Ivy Englert, Renee (Chuck) Gomendi, Paul (Troy) Wambeke, Mona (Mark) Sorenson, and Jenny (Terry) VanLake; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the Cowley LDS Church. 

Viewing/visitation will take place from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Burial will be in the Deaver-Frannie Cemetery.

The family wishes memorial donations to be made in her honor toward a heart transplant for her grandson, Trey Englert, at Big Horn Federal, P.O. Box 218, Lovell, WY 82431.
