Sonja Hanson Wenger

Sonja Wenger of Boca Grande, Florida passed away at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN on February 23, 2014.

She was born November 12, 1937 on a farm in Lemond,  Minnesota to Orris and Aline Hanson.

Sonja attended high school in Owatonna, Minnesota. Active in 4H, Job's Daughters and choir. She performed in the play "Little Women" and was in the Queens Court for homecoming.

Sonja and her husband Jerry were high school sweethearts which led to three daughters, six grandchildren and almost 55 years of marriage.  Sonja and Jerry lived in Powell, WY for 14 years.

Sonja and Jerry travelled extensively, including a hiking trip in Nepal, the 1994 winter Olympics in Lillehammer, and a memorable trip with their friends to Kenya.

Sonja was a certified lab-technician, interned at St Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minnesota and was a lab-tech at the Owatonna hospital.  She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Crisis Hot Line and was on the Board for the Wenger Foundation.

Sonja was a reader, a bridge player, a tennis fan and keeper of the lefsa making skill in the Wenger family.  Her family relied on her skills at remembering names and familial relationships. She was especially treasured for her humor and famous pithy comments.

She will be missed by her husband Jerry Wenger, her three daughters and son-in-laws; Wendy and Jeff Dankey, Kirsten and Ron Johnson, Kari Wenger and Peter Henry.  Her six grandchildren; Hanna Johnson, Inga Johnson,  Ada Johnson, Lars Johnson, Bergen Dankey and Spencer Dankey. Her beloved sister; Audrey Marion and brother-in-law Charles Marion. Her brother-in-law and sister-in-laws; Roger Benjamin, Nancy Benjamin and Linda Hanson. As well as her many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Orris and Aline and three siblings Julie Hanson, Clayton Hanson, and baby Gail Hanson.

A private family funeral is being arranged.
