Fern Marie Meeker died Oct. 8, 2014, at the Billings Clinic. She was 83.

Fern was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Powell to Otto and Lenore Fales. She grew up in Powell with her parents and beloved older sister, Wilma. She attended Powell schools and graduated from Powell High School.

Fern married the love of her life, Earl Meeker, in Lovell on March 26, 1949. They resided in Powell most of their 65-plus years of marriage with the exception of three years in Lima, Ohio, and Casey, Ill.

Fern and Earl were blessed with four children, Paula, Westley, Michael and Sheri. Fern was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with her family.

Fern belonged to the local art guild and was a former longtime superintendent at the Park County Fair. She was a volunteer for the Methodist Church at the boutique for many years. Fern also was a volunteer hairdresser at the Powell nursing home.

Fern loved family outings. She loved looking at, picking, arranging and making pressed flower pictures. Fern also loved hunting Indian relics.

She was an avid painter and won many grand prize awards. Her paintings of Heart Mountain are recognized by many as some of the very best around.

Fern loved watching sporting events her children and grandchildren participated in and was never shy in letting the officials know when they missed a call. Fern was a character — she loved to laugh and have fun.

She will be sorely missed by her family, who adored her.

Fern is survived by her husband Earl; daughters Paula Meeker of Billings and Sheri (Randy) Gallagher of Phoenix, Ariz.; sons Westley Meeker of Emblem and Michael (Dale Ann) Meeker of Powell. She also had seven grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, Melissa, Alycia, Jennifer, Nick and Keoni; and four great-grandchildren, Kingston, Aliya, Scarlett and Kenai.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Wilma Waln and brother-in-law, Theron Waln.

A funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 11, with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Nick Meeker, Mark Muniz, Ryan Gallagher, Josh Daniels, Pete Bulkeley and Louie Lopez.

Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Thompson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.thompsonfuneral.net or to P.O. Box 807 Powell, WY, 82435.
