Marianne Eggers Spencer died Oct. 4, 2014, at the Powell Valley Care Center. She was 95.

Mary was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Grand Island, Neb., to Claus Fredrick Eggers and Daisy May Denman Eggers.

As a young child, she moved with her parents to Wyoming. She attended schools in Edgerton-Midwest and Glenrock, graduating in 1936 as valedictorian of her class. She married her cowboy, Arvine Wilkins Spencer, on Oct. 14, 1936. They lived in various towns and camps in Wyoming and Montana while working in the oil fields.

Most of their married life was spent in Mills and Casper, where they reared their six children. Marianne was the town clerk in Mills and became the deputy county clerk for Natrona County. Later, they moved to Hawthorne, Nev., where she was the secretary for the Mineral County district attorney and a deputy sheriff at the same time. They then moved to Phoenix, where she worked for and retired from Sentry Insurance.

Marianne was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and grandchildren and spent years acknowledging each birthday of her numerous posterity. She will be loved and missed until we can join her in eternity.

She was an accomplished horsewoman. She told the story of when she was 12, her father gave her the choice of a horse or a bicycle and without hesitation she chose the horse. She always fondly remembered her first horse and dear friend, Monty, who gave his all for her.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Patricia Moore and Kathleen Swearingen, great-granddaughter Ashley Jackson and great-great-granddaughter Raquelle Peters.

She is survived by her children, Rosemary, Marianne, Fred and Veronica; grandchildren Barbara, Cathy, Collene, Liz, Melanie, Mary Ann, John, Patricia, Michelle, Ruby, Susanne, Jeanette, Linda, Lorraine, Melissa, Joeleen, Rob Roy, Jamie, Kaleen, Doug, Terri, Julia, Maria and Dean; 65 great-grandchildren and 78 great-great-grandchildren.

The vigil service takes place at 6:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Barbara’s at 9 a.m. Friday, with interment to follow at 3 p.m. in Wyoming Memorial Gardens in Casper.
