Rodney Edward “Pud” Boutelle, 53, of Cody, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, after a falling tree struck him on the head as he was cutting firewood in Sunlight Basin.

Pud was born Feb. 23, 1961, in Corinth, N.Y., the son of Harold Boutelle “Bou” and Ann Knowles.

Following high school, Pud moved to Cody to enjoy some of his favorite passions in hunting and fishing. During his many years in Cody, he worked in the oilfield as a pipe welder and later in the construction industry. Pud was well known for his strong work ethic, knowledgeable skills and love of pulling pranks on his friends and coworkers.

Pud married Sue Holly and they recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. They had two children, Courtney Boutelle and Clinton Boutelle. Pud was very proud of his children and their many accomplishments but more importantly he was proud of the adults they have become.

Pud enjoyed all outdoor activities and spending time in Sunlight Basin was always high on his list of favorite places to camp, hunt and fish. There were many fall seasons Pud could be found along with his hunting buddies loading up horses and packing into the Thorofare, where he had made many special memories.

Pud’s most recent work venture was as project superintendent for Sletten Construction of Wyoming and the building of The New Mount Carmel, which will eventually be a monastery for the Carmelite Monks. Working with the monks brought great joy to Pud and he commented daily how much he enjoyed being able to work on this amazing project and becoming friends with all the “Brothers and Fathers.”

Pud was preceded in death by his brother Todd.

He leaves not only his wife and children, but both his father, mother, sister Christine and twin brother Richard.

Pud was always surrounded by pets including LD, his cantankerous mule, and Bailey, his loyal and favorite dog.

Pud will be greatly missed by many.

Cremation has occurred and there will be a private blessing of Rodney’s remains by the Carmelite Monks on Thursday at the monastery.

There will be a celebration of Pud’s life at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Super Bowl. Everyone is invited to come and share memories of this beloved man with his family and friends and party like he would have wanted.
