Jacklyn Ruth Gartner Gilman of Powell died surrounded by her family on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. She was 73.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1940, to Joseph (Joe) and Mary Kathryn Gartner in Sidney, Mont.

Jackie graduated from Sidney High School in 1958.  After graduation she attended cosmetology school and used this degree for decades. She was also a 44-plus year tax preparer at H&R Block, at one point owning two of her own storefronts.

On April 3, 1963, she married David Gilman of Miles City, Mont. They made their home there and raised two daughters, Cassie and Ronada.

In 1971 they moved to Powell. Jackie was an active member of the Rebekah’s, serving as the Wyoming president from 2008-09. Along with time spent in civic duties, Jackie loved bowling, fishing, cooking, making candy, canning, gardening and knitting. With these talents she shared many treats with her family and friends. Her family was extremely important to her.

Left to remember her life and love are her husband of 51 years David Gilman; daughters Cassie (Jack) Wright of Greybull; and Ronada (Dean) Angell of Billings;  grandchildren: Jake (Jill) Wright with great-grandchildren Grace, Ava, Torrun and Levi of Buffalo, Justin Wright of Greybull, Aubrey (Kody) Santiago, Tiffany Angell (Derek Fuchs), and Kacey Angell (Zachary Carson), all of Billings. 

Jackie was born the fifth of 10 girls; she is survived by Eva Anderson of Eureka, Mont., Shirley LaMotte of Billings, Margaret (Gordon) Bradley of Sidney, Karen (Rich) Rogers of Billings, Paula (Mike) McClain of Havre, Mont., Carla (Cardwell) Berg of Sidney, Mont., Donnell (Richard) Olesky of Auburndale, Fla., Diane (Curt) Prchal of Billings; sisters-in-law Ginny (Bill) Dean of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dolly (Neil) Bolejack, Miles City, Mont., also numerous nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Kathryn Gartner; her sister Patricia Denowh of Sidney; brothers-in-law Ivan Anderson, Marvin LaMotte and Russ Denowh; and one nephew Shaun Feldman.

A celebration of life will be held in Powell on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. at the Eagles, 131 N. Clark. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Sept. 8, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery following the service.

The family has asked that memorial donations be made to a fund held at Big Horn Federal in her name. Funds will be split between the Breast Cancer Research Fund and a Rebekah’s scholarship.
