Petra Marcella Lopez Sanchez

Petra Marcella Lopez Sanchez died surrounded by her family on June 18, 2014, at Spirit Mountain Hospice. She was 86.

She was born Jan. 16, 1928, to Jose and Lina Lopez in La Grulla, Texas.

She met Eugenio Sanchez in 1962 and together they raised 10 children. They became migrant farm workers traveling to Pennsylvania to harvest apples and grapes, Ohio for cucumbers and tomatoes, Oklahoma for cotton and Wyoming for sugar beets. They eventually settled in Wyoming in 1967, where she continued her lifelong passion of cooking and taking care of her children.

Petra was preceded in death by her husband, Eugenio Sanchez and son Jose Gonzalez. She is survived by her children: Paul Gonzalez of Mountain View, Velicia McCullough of Powell, Victor Lopez of Cody, Alfonzo Lopez of Billings, Ayda (Tom) Hamann of Cody, Leonard (Sue) Sanchez of Cody, Eddie (Dawn) Sanchez of Evanston, Amalia Gould of Powell, Dora Sanchez of Cody; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Per her wishes, she was cremated and graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Riverside Cemetery in Cody. Family and friends are invited to her house in Ralston for a celebration of her life.
