Laura Williams McGeHee, 73, of Cody, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
Laura was born on Feb. 20, 1941, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Hugh and Ann Williams. She was a resident of Cody, having moved there in 1996 to live her dream life.
Laura attended LaGrange College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in art. She continued to pursue her interests and talents as an artist while raising her three daughters. As a mother of three girls, Laura was always dedicating her time to designing programs and costumes and hosting parties for friends. She continued this life of service when she moved to Cody.
She was known by all her friends as a caretaker of strays of any sort. If there was an animal who needed a home, then Laura was the one to take it in. As a friend and community member, Laura did not know a stranger. Anyone she met immediately became a friend and her door was always open to those who needed a home for the holidays or a friend’s ear.
She is survived by her three daughters, Dawn, Ashley and Wendy; two sons-in-law, Eugene and Benton; and four grandchildren, Taylor, Clay, Michael and Caylan. She also leaves behind her beloved pets: Zeke, Crawford, Abby, Snoopy and Widdle.
Laura’s celebration of life service will be held at her home at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11. Laura’s final request is that friends and family make donations to the Wounded Warriors Fund.
Ballard Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation services.
