Morris Jay McCarty died March 23, 2014, at Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Colorado. He was 93.

Morris was born June 29, 1920, to Earl and Dora Chapman McCarty in Terry, Mont. 

Morris went to school in Terry through the ninth grade. He quit school to work. Morris worked breaking horses, building ditch with a Fresno and a team of four horses.

He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the war and did a lot of conservation work. Morris worked on various ranches. He moved to Wyoming and continued ranch work. 

Morris met Pauline Larson while working for the Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse. Morris and Pauline were married June 24, 1946. To this union were born Joyce Helen and Earl Edward. 

Morris continued his work at various ranches. After he retired, he went to work for Jake Clark guiding hunters and later cooking in hunting camp. Morris helped Jake build his house in Ralston and lived with Jake and Kaye for many years helping around the place.

Morris braided miles of picket ropes and halter ropes, made bridle reins and repaired a lot of tack. Morris spent a few winters in Mexico with his brother, Earl. He made a lot of trips to Colorado to visit Tom and Joyce LeFevre and his grandchildren, Connie and Gene, and to visit family in several states.

Morris loved a good rodeo and the PBR bull riding.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pauline; son Eddie; brother Earl; and sisters June, Pearl, Harriet and Edna.

He is survived by his daughter Joyce (Tom) LeFevre; grandchildren Gene (Morsan) LeFevre, Connie (Brandon) Lyster; and great-grandchildren Travis LeFevre and Nathan LeFevre.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Graveside services will follow at the Meeteetse Cemetery.
