Peter Chidsey, of Powell, lost his fight with cancer on Thursday, March 6, 2014. He was 76.

Pete was born in New York City on Sept. 30, 1937. Pete loved the outdoors and capitalized on those interests by obtaining bachelor’s degrees in forestry and range management from Utah State University and later Colorado State University.

He married his love Deborah “Deb” Taylor on Dec. 24, 1960, in Yakima, Wash. To this marriage three daughters were born.

Pete was hired by the U.S. Forest Service and lived in many places during his career. He settled in Lovell and later retired as district ranger of the Medicine Wheel Ranger District of the Bighorn National Forest in October 1990. In July 1997, Pete and Deb moved to Powell.

Pete is survived by his wife Deb of 53 years; his daughter Ginny (Cliff Smith) Chidsey of Cheyenne; Allison (Woody) Evans of Cody; Catherine (Paul) Willard of Manson, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Penny (Ferrell) Hays of Sugar Land, Texas; and three nieces.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Alan Lake Chidsey of Sugar Land, Texas.

Cremation has taken place with Thompson Funeral Home in Powell.

Later this summer, a memorial service will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church with burial at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell. His family respectfully requests memorial contributions be donated to Park County Library Foundation — Powell Branch, Powell Valley Medical Foundation — Hospice, Alan and Ellis Chidsey Scholarship Fund, a charity of one’s choice or planting of a tree seedling in his memory.
