Phillip C. Watts of Longmont, Colo., died March 10, 2014, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo., after a short illness. He was 63.

Born on May 13, 1950, in Sheridan, he was raised by Leo P. Wilson and his mother, Elna (Nelson) Wilson, in Powell.

Phil graduated from Powell High School in 1969. He attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie before joining UNIVAC and moving to California. He worked for Lawrence Livermore Lab before joining COBE Laboratories, Inc. to serve the company’s western territory.

Before founding the alternative-energy Watts Thermal Electric Company, Phil owned Advance PC in Longmont. An inventor and entrepreneur, Phil holds two patents, with a number of national and international patents pending for alternative solutions to today’s energy problems. His wife, Denese, will ensure his life’s work continues.

A man of many interests, he loved electronics, collecting rocks, coins, antiques and the stories they held. He was an adventurer in the world and the kitchen. He loved trains and train travel, playing cards with friends and family and camping in God’s country. Phil was an active member of Westview Presbyterian Church, a spousal-member of Elks Lodge 1055 in Longmont, the Northern Lights Camping Club, Longmont Gem & Mineral Club, and the DiVinci Institute.

Phil married his life companion and fellow adventurer Denese Bissell on June 21, 2003, at Red Feather’s Lake.

Phil is survived by his wife Denese; children Erica Rogers of Lincoln, Neb., Liberty Watts of Garden Valley, Calif., Anderson Watts of Longmont, Abigail Watts of Santa Monica, Calif., and Zachary Watts of Longmont; and grandchildren: Robert (Emily) Nichols, Christina Nichols, Laura Kalcik, Willow and Lily Collinsworth; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his children Jenna (Chris) Finley of Greeley and David (Megan) Bissell of Greeley, and grandchildren Mackenize, Liam, and Luke Finely and Evelyn and Ronan Bissell.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, at Westview Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at Westview on Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. with cremation entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services following the services.  Memorials are requested to the Round Pantry Food Bank at Westview Presbyterian Church.
