Former Powell resident Elmer Thomas ‘Tom’ Mallette died Feb. 25, 2014. He was 99.
Tom was born in Thermopolis to Thomas Mallette and Henrietta McClelland on Dec. 4, 1915.
Tom joined the Navy when he was 25 years old and was in World War II and Korea.
He married his wife Lilian Parfitt in Philadelphia in 1949.
After a career in the Navy of 21 years, the couple bought a ranch in Olalla, Ore. A few years later, Tom decided he wanted to come back to his home state of Wyoming, where they bought a farm in the Heart Mountain area.
Tom worked for the Department of Agriculture for 13 years as a meat inspector as well as raising beef cattle on their farm. After retiring, they moved to town (Powell), where they lived for 15 years.
Tom and Lilian were also winter visitors to Tucson, Ariz., for 28 winters.
Tom enjoyed riding horses, especially his favorite horse Buck. He was an avid golfer and was always ready to grab those golf clubs wherever he was.
Tom is survived by his wife Lilian of 64 years; four children, Vincent Mallette, Christina Sherman, Virginia Yates and Vivian Hutchins; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by one brother Joseph Mallette of California, and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a young brother, Henry, of the family home, and a sister, Betty Wood, from Ault, Colo.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be brought to Heart Mountain.
