Violet E. ‘Vi’ Boyle

Violet E. Boyle, 94, of Powell, died Feb. 24, 2014, at the Powell Valley Care Center after a brief illness.

Vi, as she was known, was born in Steele City, Neb., on Jan. 9, 1920, to Charles and Minnie (Smith) Hunnicutt. She moved to Whidbey Island, Wash., with her family at the age of 3. She then moved to Garland at the age of 6, where she resided with her family and attended school.

At the age of 15, she met Albert Boyle at a dance in Garland. After a brief courtship, Vi and Al were married Sept. 28, 1935. They moved into Powell to make their home.

Together, they built their new home on Avenue F in 1946, after Al returned from World War II. Vi remained in that home until 2013 at which time she moved to the Heartland Assisted Living Residence. She then moved to the Powell Valley Care Center.

Vi and Al were married for 66 years until Albert’s death in 2002.

Vi was a mother and homemaker her entire life. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, and enjoyed being with her daughters at Girl Scout camps and functions. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, gardening, cooking, baking, knitting, crocheting and reading. Her girls and friends were the recipients of many of her crafted afghans. Vi enjoyed working cross-word puzzles in any spare time she found.

She also enjoyed camping, boating and fishing for many years with her family at Buffalo Bill Reservoir, Yellowstone Lake and Jackson Lake in Jackson Hole. She enjoyed following the activities and events of her children and grandchildren. Vi was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Powell.

She and Al enjoyed many years of retirement in Mesa and Apache Junction, Ariz., and St. George, Utah.

Vi was preceded in death by her husband Albert; parents Charles and Minnie Hunnicutt; brothers William, Chester, Delmar, Floyd and Robert Hunnicutt; sisters Grace Cooley and Clara Ann Whitson; an infant son at birth; daughter Bobby Jo Bodle and son-in-law Philip Bodle.

She is survived by daughters Linda (Bill) Ashby of Powell and Joy (Allen) Cox of Hillsboro, Ore.; grandchildren Philis Bodle of Washington, David Bodle of Georgia, Chris Ashby and Scott (Kassi) Ashby of Powell, Brian (Gloria) Cox and Jacey Cox of Hillsboro, Ore.; great-grandchildren Kinsey and Kalli Ashby of Powell, Reyna and Corey Cox of Hillsboro, Ore., and Landon Bodle of Montana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Per her request, no funeral services will be held. Cremation has taken place.
