Former Powell resident Richard Edgar Lyon died at his home in Hot Springs, Ark., on Feb. 14, 2014, of natural causes at the age of 67.

The son of Ardice U. Lyon and Robert H. Lyon (both deceased), he was born May 24, 1946, in Missoula, Mont., and was raised in Bozeman, Mont.

He graduated from Montana State University in 1974, and lived in Belgrade, Mont., before moving to Powell, where he lived for several years. He lived and worked in Round Mountain, Nev., for nearly 20 years before retiring to Hot Springs.

He was a gifted musician and played in many local bands throughout his life. His special talent was the ability to play any piece of music by ear after listening to it just once. Later in life he enjoyed buying and fixing various cars, and was especially interested in converting biodiesel engines.

He is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Lyon Westergaard of Seattle, and Jessica Lyon Shuler and her husband Tucker of Klamath Falls, Ore.

Memorial services are planned for a later date.
