Gary T. Pendley, former resident of Powell and Cody, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was 73.

He was born in Powell May 21, 1940, the oldest of four children of Leo and Nola Pendley. He attended Powell schools and graduated from Powell High School in 1958 where he excelled in sports and was a member of the undefeated state championship Powell Panther football team in 1957.

He continued his education at Northwest College, where he played football and baseball and earned an A.A. degree.

He married Connie Carlisle on March 31, 1961, at Powell.

At the age of 21, he went to work  in the administrative offices for Husky Oil Company in Cody, eventually working his way up to director of purchasing.  In 1986, he moved to Cheyenne as a purchasing agent for Frontier Oil and Refining. He retired from Frontier in 2011.

He served nearly nine years on the Cody City Council between November 1977 and March 1986. An electrical subdivision in Cody bears his name in recognition of his City Council service.

Gary led a full life of fishing, golfing, gardening and camping and was an avid fan and supporter of the University of Wyoming Cowboys.

Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Connie Pendley in Cheyenne; a son, Greg (Ann) Pendley of Cody, and a daughter, Trisha Pendley of Ft. Collins, Colo.; grandson Cory Pendley, granddaughter Amber (Jake) Tuten and great-grandson, Gabriel Tuten. He is also survived by his loving sister, Linda Anderson, of Riverton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Darrell and Danny.

A memorial service will be conducted at Wiederspahn Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes, 1900 East 19th St. in Cheyenne Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2:30 p.m. It will be a celebration of his life, with an invitation for written or spoken memories. Cremation has taken place.
