(Sept. 24, 1925 - Jan. 27, 2014)

The “weatherman” made his last forecast on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

Guy Richard Cummings died Jan. 27, at Powell Valley Healthcare. He was 88.

He was born Sept. 24, 1925, to Robert E. and Myrtle A. Cummings in Basin.

He joined the U.S. Navy as an Armed Guard when he was just 17. Guy was so worried about his mother, a widowed woman, that he had one half of his paycheck sent home every month. Guy continued caring for her all of her life.

During his service in the Navy, he was on four different ships. Guy received a Blue Nose certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle and became a Shell Back for crossing the Equator.

Guy married Barbara Drake on Aug. 21, 1947. They had two children. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1950.

Guy married Bessie Nicholls on Aug. 18, 1962. Bessie brought four children to the marriage. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2011.

After his beloved Bessie died, Guy lost a lot of heart for living, but still enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren and most of all, the great grands.

Guy loved to predict the weather forecast. Even in the care center, Guy knew what the weather was doing and why.

Because of his profound hearing loss, Guy became an observer of people and events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara; wife Bessie; three sisters, Ruth, Mary and Alberta; and three brothers, Robert, Lee and Jim; and stepson Gilmer.

Guy is survived by his children: Larry (Joy) Cummings, Berdine (Wes) Helgeson, Sandra (John) Duty, Jeanne (Dick) Nelson, Norman (Vicki) Nicholls; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorials in his name can be made to Powell Valley Healthcare or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being made by Thompson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.thompsonfuneral.net or to P.O. Box 807 Powell, WY, 82435.
