Helena De Fina, 50, died suddenly at her home in Powell Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.She was born on Aug. 13, 1963 in Chicago, Ill. She grew up in Wauconda, Ill., and Fountain Hills, Ariz., graduating from high school in 1981.

Helena graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and Spanish in 1993. She received a master’s degree in public health from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 2001.

She married Anthony Polvere on Dec. 3, 1991, in Flagstaff.

Helena worked in community health service, most recently as a prevention specialist at West Park Hospital in Cody.

Her passions included animals, eating Anthony’s Italian cooking, dancing and travel. She taught yoga classes at the Yoga Center in Powell. Helena served as a friendship family for international students at Northwest College.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony, of Powell; her mother, Eva (Quintana) De Fina of Powell; her brothers Fernando De Fina and his wife Lauren of St. Charles, Ill., and Frankie De Fina and his companion Laura of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; nephew Jason De Fina and his wife Angie of Phoenix, Ariz.; niece Ellana De Fina of St. Charles, Ill., as well as two grandnieces and one grandnephew.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francesco De Fina.

A celebration of Helena De Fina’s life is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Nelson Auditorium on the Northwest College campus. A reception will follow at the Nelson House on College Drive.

The family asks those wishing to honor Helena to consider donations in her name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), local animal shelters or the charity of your choice.
