Leroy Owen Beckwith, 79, died at a hospice residence in Laurel, Mont., early Monday morning, Dec. 9, 2013.

Leroy was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Basin, Big Horn County, to the parents of Leroy Louis Beckwith and Dorothea (Johnson) Beckwith.  Leroy graduated from Basin High School in Basin. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy in January 1955.

Following naval retirement in 1975, Leroy worked for the VA Medical Center in Sheridan until October 1990.

Leroy married Helen Edith Reno on Oct. 30, 1955, in Powell. Together they were blessed with three children, Tina, Jody, and Jeffrey.

Leroy and his wife, Helen, desired to serve with the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program and served throughout the United States.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Basin, the U.S. Naval Reserve Association, and the National Rifle Association.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Helen Beckwith.

Leroy is survived by his three children: daughter Tina (Jody) Rowan of Ellensburg, Wash., daughter, Jody (Germann) Hoebelheinrich of Sheridan; son Jeffrey (Marilyn) of Longview, Wash.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister Sybil Hannah of Thermopolis; and two brothers, Larry Beckwith of Lander and Robert Beckwith of Sheridan.

There will be viewings at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 15, from noon to 3 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Basin on Monday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Kent Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount View Cemetery in Basin with an honor guard. A luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the graveside service at the First Baptist Church Gymnasium in Basin.

Memorial donations can be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation at the Petroleum Building, Suite 103, 111 West Second Street, Casper, WY 82601, in memory of those who have MS and Leroy’s dear wife, Helen.
