Henry G. Martinez, 75, died of natural causes on Nov. 20, 2013, at Powell Valley Care Center.

He was born on May 10, 1938, in Pueblo, Colo., to Benjamin and Ida Autobee Martinez. The family moved to Greeley, Colo., during his early years. He began to shine shoes to help buy school lunches for his younger siblings. At the age of 12 or 13 he began to learn shoe repair. He worked through high school.

Hank married Rose Benavidez on March 4, 1957. The couple had four children: Jake Henry, Dorothy, Rosalie and Deana.

The family moved to Cheyenne, where Hank owned and operated Capitol Shoe Repair. In 1970, he moved to Powell, where he worked for Muller Shoe Shop for almost 20 years. He also worked concrete construction for Howell Construction and six campaigns at Western Sugar in Lovell. In addition, he was a pro with leather on a sewing machine, making saddles and tack and auto upholstery.

Hank married Constance Lanik See on Aug. 11, 1972. They had 41 good years together.

He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved to hunt coons with his hound Wild Man, also known as Spot.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters Dorothy Montoya, Rosalie Russell and Deana Salsberg of Greeley; grandchildren Sheree Montoya and Levi Martinez; two great-grandchildren and siblings Raymond, Benjamin, Roque Montoya, Alice Baca, Irene Sierra, Tina Valencia, Victoria Rodarte, Vivian Chavez and Daniel Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant Michael; son Jake; brother Leo and sisters Luciana and Maryanne.

Cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate his life will take place from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the American Legion Hall in Powell.

Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory.
