(Dec. 4, 1930 - Nov. 13, 2013)

Elroy Weixel, 82, of Cody, died in Billings, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013.

Elroy was born on a farm near Gackle, N.D., on Dec. 4, 1930, to Michael and Lydia (Deutscher) Weixel. The Weixels were a family of 10, and Elroy was the ninth child.

In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After one year of service, he married the love of his life, Harriet Williams, on June 16, 1952.

Elroy and Harriet enjoyed their early years of marriage traveling. Their adventure included the following countries: Egypt, India, Philippines and Korea.

In 1955, Elroy attended Warner Pacific College and majored in Christian education and minored in Bible studies.

In 1961, Elroy and Harriet started their ministry of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ as youth leaders in San Francisco. In 1968 he was called to serve at the First Church of God in Pacific Grove, Calif., where he served for 15 years. In 1980, they moved to Indianapolis, where he served as an interim pastor at the Danville Church of God and Noblesville Church. After seven years, he was called to be the pastor at the Church of God in Jerome, Idaho.

In 1994, God gave Elroy and Harriet specific directions to go to Chelyabinsk, Russia, to teach morals and ethics in the public schools. This was a special ministry for them. In 1996, Elroy and Harriet returned back to Jerome so Elroy could serve as their pastor again.

In 2000, he served as pastor in Grand Rapids, Minn., for two years and then they returned to Pacific Grove. In 2008, God called them to minister and serve the people in Cody. He continued to serve as pastor at Mountain View Church of God until his passing.

Elroy was very talented as a mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber and gardener. He could build and repair anything and enjoyed it immensely.

Elroy listened to his Savior and served him faithfully; his calling was to share Christ’s love with everyone he met.

Elroy is survived by his brother Reinhardt Weixel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Harriet Weixel, his parents, three brothers, Alvin, Aaron and Robert, and five sisters, Ruth, Ida, Anna, Leah and Rachel.

Memorial donations can be made to the Mountain View Church of God in Cody.
