Leonard F. Whitlock

(May 16, 1939 - Sept. 17, 2013)

Longtime Powell general contractor Leonard Frank Whitlock, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Powell Valley Hospital.

He based his contracting business out of Powell for 46 years and accomplished many building projects in the area. His company performed the 1993-1994 downtown beautification project that transformed Powell with a new streetscape that included retro lighting, trees, benches, bicycle racks and red sidewalks.

Lenny Whitlock was born May 16, 1939, in Denver, son of Charles and Marguerette Whitlock. He graduated from Powell High School and attended some college before forming his general construction company in 1967.  He was a member of the Wyoming National Guard.

He married Rhoda Jeanne Brandt Dec. 31, 1960, and they were later divorced. He married Danna Grisham Feb. 14, 2013.

Lenny was a member of the Powell Elks Lodge, Shriners and Masons. He enjoyed playing golf and was a devoted follower of his grandchildren’s athletic activities.

Survivors include his spouse, Danna Grisham; two sons, Lonnie R. (Diane) Whitlock and Tye H. (Jayme) Whitlock, both of Powell; two daughters, Rebecca J. Whitlock of Powell and Jodie L. (Terry) Warchola of Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada; two brothers, Howard (Barbara) Whitlock and Jack Whitlock; a sister, Joyce (Benny) Keller; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill, Ritchie and Jerry Whitlock; and his first wife, Jeannie.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Holly Haines will officiate.

Pallbearers at the funeral will include Ryan Herd, Tanner Herd, Koby Herd, Ty Herd, Jaeden Herd and Karson Warchola. Honorary pallbearers are Kacey Warchola and Brekyn Herd.
