Larry Lee Dye

(June 5, 1939 - July 30, 2013)

Larry Lee Dye, 74, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the West Park Hospital Emergency Room in Cody.

Larry was born to George and Ruby on June 5, 1939, in Casper. He moved to Worland at a very early age and finished school in Greybull.

At age 17, Larry entered the Navy and served in the Korean War. He served for four years before working for the Forest Service as a surveyor. 

On Jan. 19, 1962, Larry was united in marriage with Judy Guth in Cody. He worked several other jobs before ultimately establishing the Carpet Hut with Judy in 1974 with $300 and three rolls of carpet. The Carpet Hut was his passion and he enjoyed improving people’s homes for the rest of his life up to his final day.

Larry lived his life to the fullest. He was an avid hunter and shooter, a member of the Wyoming State Shooting Association, coach for his sons’ baseball teams, and a Boy Scout leader for Pack 54. 

He treasured spending time with his family, especially on holidays. Larry loved the outdoors and all it had to offer: fishing, camping, boating, four-wheeling, waterskiing, but perhaps mountains the most. He always said, “Why go on vacation when I live in the most beautiful place in the world?”  

Larry was the ultimate Denver Broncos fan and cheered them on through thick and thin. He was the life of the party and known for his sense of humor and heavy hand behind the bar.

Larry was also an avid member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club and the VFW where he went for social hour and their meals.

For the last two years, he cherished the companionship and love of Donna Lynn. He enjoyed being around her family and friends. Together they spent many hours at grandkids’ events and many trips up to Donna’s cabin.    

One of Larry’s last wishes was to help others by being an organ donor. Doctors say he could help at least 75 people through his donation.

Grateful for having shared his life are two sons Rick Dye of Cody, and Steve (Utana) Dye of Powell; three grandchildren: Ryan (Mark) White of Happy Valley, Ore., Dakota (Justin) Phillips of Cody, and Taylor Dye of Powell; a great-grandson Xander White of Happy Valley; daughter-in-law Kelly Dye of Cody; sister, Iro Clark of Thermopolis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Judy; parents George and Ruby Dye; four brothers and three sisters: Naoma, Fosteen, Roland, Hershel, Merlin, Orville and Beverly Jean.

Flowers may be directed to Ballard Funeral Home. Memorial donations also can be made in his honor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars through an account the family has set up at First Bank of Wyoming.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody.
