Longtime Thermopolis resident Maycle A. Wood, 88, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center where she had resided since January 2012.
Maycle was born Feb. 3, 1925 in Gillette, one of four children born to Herman and Dorothy (Carson) Oedekoven. She graduated from high school in Gillette. During World War II she was employed as an oiler for Burlington Northern Railroad.
On Oct. 27, 1945, she married her dancing partner, Benjamin “Ben” Wood in Hardin, Mont. Two children were born to this union. As well as a dedicated homemaker, she was employed as a bus driver at Grass Creek, a construction flagger, waitress at several Thermopolis restaurants and was a meter reader for the Town of Thermopolis.
Wherever there was dance music, Maycle and Ben were there, dancing all over the Big Horn Basin. They were members of the Wyoming Fiddlers Association. Maycle was active in the VFW Auxiliary, and Good Sam’s Club. A member of St. Francis Catholic Church, she was also in the Altar and Rosary Society. Her interests included fishing, hunting, camping, crocheting, gardening, cooking, baking, bowling, snowmobiling, boating, walking airport hill, flirting and dancing.
Maycle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben, who died in December 2012; and her sister, Esther Tays.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheri (Richard) Salberg of Thermopolis; son, Wayne (Michaele) Wood of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; grandchildren Gregory (Tabbi) Salberg of Casper, and Jennifer (Trey) Bonner of Camas, Wash.; sisters, Viola Ross of Escondido, Calif., and Wilma Villicano of Bakersfield, Calif.
Graveside services will be at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette on Thursday, May 30 at 2:30 p.m.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center in Thermopolis.
