Roy A. Miller

Reverend Roy A. Miller of Powell died Friday, May 10, 2013. He was 89.

Roy was born in Blunt, S.D., on March 9, 1924, the only son of the late Arthur John and Della Mae Edge Miller. He attended elementary school in Blunt, S.D., and graduated from Rewey High School in Rewey, Wis.  He was a graduate of Chicago Evangelistic Bible College in Chicago, and he furthered his education at Wesley College in Grand Forks, N.D.; Hamlin University in St. Paul, Minn.; and Garrett Seminary in Chicago.

Throughout his 42 years in the ministry, Roy served Methodist congregations in Fosston, Erskine, Kenyon and Nerstrand, Minn., including the Pine Bend Chippewa Mission; in addition to Price, Utah; Rock Springs and Copperton, Utah. He also held positions on public library boards, the Boy Scouts of America and senior citizen boards. He retired to Powell in 1999 to spend time with family.

Roy is survived by his wife of more than 63 years D. Rosalie Miller; sons Mark (Martha ) Miller of Rock Springs; John (Teresa) Miller of Powell; daughter Karen (Jimmy) Brown of Belton, S.C.; grandchildren Sharon (Eric) Miller Laubach, Paul Miller, Allison Miller, Elizabeth (Brian) Brown Bateman and D.J. Brown; great-grandchildren Cassandra and Aaron Laubach; step-grandchildren Nathan Miera, Heidi Hayes and Justin Hayes; step great-grandchildren Alexis Miera and Sami Buono; sister Dorothy Gardenier of Madison, Wis.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by three sisters: Marcia (Robert) Odgen, Evelyn (Raymond) Moore and Carol (Robert) Lee and brother-in-law LeRoy Gardenier. 

Pastor Susan Adams-Trembath will officiate the memorial service on Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at the Powell First United Methodist Church at Second and Bernard Streets.

Memorials donations may be made to the church of your choice in Roy’s name.
