Zachary Copenhaver

Zachary D. Copenhaver of San Tan Valley, Ariz. died Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was 31.

Zach was born July 21, 1981 in Powell to Mark and Ann Copenhaver.

He attended Powell schools, graduating from Powell High School in 2000. After high school, he went on to Northwest College, where he met Abbey Raynor. The couple was married on June 19, 2004 in Lander. They had a daughter, Macy, who is 19 months old.

Zach graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

He was working as an immigration enforcement agent. Zach was assigned to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations, Phoenix Field Office, Criminal Alien Program. He began his employment there on March 28, 2010. 

Upon completion of basic training at the ICE Academy in Glynco, Ga., Zach was recognized as the outstanding honor graduate. During his time with the Phoenix Field Office, Zach was a green-team member of the Phoenix Special Response Team.

Prior to his employment with ICE, Zachary was employed by the Arizona Department of Corrections as a K-9 officer.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Ross Copenhaver; grandmother Barbara Hansen; and aunt Maureen Hansen.

Zach is survived by his parents, Mark and Ann Copenhaver of Powell; wife Abbey; daughter Macy; sister Sarah (Ryan) Shdo; father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert and Barbara Raynor; grandfather Dick Hansen; grandmother Kay Copenhaver; uncles Ron (Carmia) Copenhaver, Tracy Copenhaver and Gary Hansen; aunts Jayne (Gene) Haggen and Sharon Hansen; cousins Melissa (Bruce) Bundgaard, Ryan (JoLynn) Copenhaver, Alisa (Brent) Bissell, Weston Haggen and Jeff Hansen; and brother-in-law Adam Raynor.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place Tuesday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Powell.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Ross D. Copenhaver Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Northwest College Foundation.
