Donna Belle Jones, 89, of Powell, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Powell Valley Hospital. Belle, as she preferred to be called, was born on Nov. 29, 1923 in Helvey, Neb., the fourth child of Harry and Harriett Jacobs. She grew up on a dry land farm during the Depression and had very little but made do with what they had, a trait which persisted throughout her life.

Belle attended a country school through eighth grade and then attended high school in western Nebraska graduating in 1940. That same year she and her family moved to Powell where she met and married Keith Jones in 1943, a union of nearly 60 years.

To this union were born five boys in five years!  She was proud of them all.

Belle worked at Mountain Bell and US West Telephone Company retiring in 1980 after 25 years of service.

After their retirement Keith and Belle spent many years traveling in their motor home and visited all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a Panama cruise.

A faithful member of Union Presbyterian Church for 70 years, she served in nearly every capacity as elder, Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor/supervisor, and sang in the choir for more than 50 years.

Belle and Keith loved camping, snowmobiling, fishing and riding horseback. Her hobbies included gardening, growing flowers, baking, caring for house plants, playing cards and of course, spending time with her family.

Belle was preceded in death by son Kenton, husband Keith, great-granddaughter Maddalyn Anderson, her parents, and brothers Kermit and Jewell (Jake) Jacobs.

Belle is survived by four sons: Calvin (Donna) Jones of Worland, Randolph (Beverly) Jones of Sidney, Mont., Jeffrey Jones of Billings, Mont., and Denman “Darky” Jones of Grand Junction, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Gwendolyn Baxter, Patricia Jones, and Barbara (Clarence) Werbelow all of Powell; one brother, Larry (Carol) of Medford, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.

Belle was a loving and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and “grandma great.” She will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place per her wishes and a memorial service to celebrate Belle’s life will be held at Union Presbyterian Church in Powell on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Union Presbyterian Church.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family at www.thompsonfuneral.net or P.O. Box 807, Powell, WY 82435.
