Evelyn Lorene Sparks, 96, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Powell Valley Care Center after having been a resident for a few months. Prior to that, she resided at The Heartland assisted living center in Powell for six years.

Evelyn was born in 1916, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to the late Charles and Nellie (Inman) Ingalls. She attended schools in Lucerne, Thermopolis and Greybull; then the family moved to a farm in Worland where she completed her education.

She married Johnny Sparks in Worland in 1935, and they had three children. The family moved from Worland to a farm near Otto in 1948. Evelyn later moved to Basin where she resided for nearly 40 years.

Evelyn and a couple of friends enjoyed providing homemade lunches at the Greybull sales ring, and after that she worked for a while at the Basin Fountain Drug. Later, Evelyn was employed for nearly 30 years at the Big Horn County Treasurer’s office in Basin. 

Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Women’s Bible Study. She was at one time the Wyoming State President in the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Evelyn is survived by son, Wayne (Carol) Sparks of Burlington; daughter, Loralee Clause of Las Vegas, Nev.; former daughter-in-law, Sally Sparks of Riverton; 10 grandchildren, two of which are local residents, Richard (Marie) Sparks  of Otto and Dona (Bob) Becker of Powell; 19 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, former husband, Johnny Sparks, son, Donald Sparks, two brothers and a sister preceded Evelyn in death.

A private memorial service was held at Evelyn’s request, Saturday, April 13 at the Basin First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Kent Dempsey followed by burial at Mount View Cemetery in Basin.
