A memorial service and reception for Philip A. Napoli, 72, of Powell will be held at the Elks Lodge in Powell (581 N. Clark St.) on Sunday, April 7, from 2-4 p.m. Philip died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 30, 2013 after battling cancer for four years.

Philip was born Oct. 13, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ester Page and Paul Napoli. He graduated from Brush High School in South Euclid, Ohio and enlisted in the Navy. After his discharge Philip enrolled at Kent State University in Ohio where he earned his PhD degree. Philip married Carol J. Jones on Aug. 24, 1963 in LaPort, Ohio. They both taught school and traveled extensively around the country. During one of their adventures West in 1978 they stopped at the Top of the World store in the Beartooth Mountains and bought the store on a whim. They continued to teach school in Ohio until 1987 when they made the move to Wyoming. They operated the store for 23 years.

Phil was a man of many hobbies and interests and kept active for his entire life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, spelunking and was a rockhound. He sailed on the East Coast and boated on Yellowstone Lake. He made jewelry, was a grape grower and winemaker. Phil participated in motocross racing with his sons and helped with Boy Scouts. He was a carpenter for many years and built two homes in Ohio as well as his home in Powell. He drove the DVA van, was an EMT in Powell and a first responder in the Beartooth Mountains. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Columbia Station, Ohio.

Phil was preceded in death by his father Paul, his mother Ester and mother-in-law and father-in-law Jeanne and Joseph Jones.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Powell; sons Philip Napoli II of Florida and Joel Napoli of Columbia Station, Ohio; grandchildren Paul Napoli of Powell, Adam Napoli of Savanna, Ga., and Taylor Napoli, Max Napoli and Wil Napoli, all of Columbia Station, Ohio; sister-in-law Nancy Jones (Dan) McRae of Tennessee and niece and nephew Daniele and Scott McRae.
