Marie Mae McGonagle Grant was born May 1, 1921. She died March 23, 2013 at the age of 91.
Marie was the daughter of Jesse Thompson McGonagle and Ada Lee Birney. Her father was a farmer and she grew up enjoying farm life, horses and cattle. She attended school in Powell and graduated from Powell High School in 1939.
On Sept. 19, 1939 Marie married the love of her life, Wilson May Grant, and the young couple made their first home in Lovell. They spent the next 67 years loving each other. Over the years the family lived in Lovell, Powell, Cowley, Big Piney, Utah and Oklahoma.
Marie converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1954 and became an active member of the church. She served in many capacities over the years, including primary teacher, relief society teacher and relief society president.
She truly loved her calling as a visiting teacher and loved each of the sisters that she was assigned to visit. She was diligent in supporting missionaries and was proud that five members of her family are currently serving missions. Her greatest joy in life was her large family, and she was faithful in sending them greeting cards and letters, especially those on missions and serving in the military.
She loved gardening, reading books, playing games and telling stories to her children and her grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, her husband, three children, Jesse, Wilson Mac and Judy Ann, three grandchildren, Norma Jean Alber, Wesley Clark,Tonna Davis and sons-in-law Bob Davis and Norman Alber.
She is survived by her children, Keith and Helen Kay Grant of Lovell; Sylvia Alber of Blue Hill, Neb.; Sally Davis of Lovell; Linda Grant (daughter-in-law) of Deary, Idaho; Allen and Jill Grant of Eloy, Ariz.; Nelada and Alan White of Preston, Idaho; Gary and Tammy of Cowley; Cindy and Allan Clark of Byron; Michael and Marianne Grant of Lovell; Bonnie and Tom Bakes of Pocatello, Idaho; 59 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Esther (Jay) Wollam of Surprise, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson and Betty Clark and one brother-in-law Frank Robins, all of Layton, Utah.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 25 in the Lovell Stake Center. Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery.
Haskell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
