Nea Sandra Schwager Yetter, 80, of Cody and formerly of Meeteetse, died peacefully in her sleep March 1, 2013, at her home with family by her side. Nea was a longtime resident of Meeteetse where she was born and raised.
She was born on July 15, 1932 to Edwin and Frankie Doores Schwager. The oldest of three children, she was raised outside Meeteetse on the Lower Greybull River at the family ranch with her brother and sister. Growing up on the ranch were some of her most cherished memories. She often shared stories of herding sheep with her grandmother and farming with her father.
Nea married the love of her life, Mark Yetter, on Feb. 21, 1952 in Billings. They made their home in Meeteetse where they raised their two daughters, Nioma and Denoma. They spent most of their time together as a family in the outdoors fishing, hunting and camping. Reading and learning were also among her favorite pastimes.
She earned her degree in accounting from LaSalle University in 1961. After years of raising a family and being a homemaker, she decided to return to the workforce. She was the clerk treasurer for the Town of Meeteetse from 1970 until her retirement in 1995. Keeping books for Young’s Service Station and Lucille’s Café also kept her busy for many years.
After living in Meeteetse, she moved to Cody in 2003 to be with her daughter. Her family was the most important part of her life. She represented a place of comfort to her family and was often a source of wisdom and inspiration. Family and friends could always find her door open and an eagerness to listen. Her comforting words and sense of humor will be dearly missed.
Nea is survived by her daughter Denoma Randall of Cody; grandson Schad (Stacey) Randall of Billings; granddaughters Mandy (Dave) Kern of Cody and Tawna James of Rock Springs; great-grandchildren Shaydon and Shylee Randall of Billings; and brother Edwin (Deanna) Schwager of Lander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark, daughter Nioma James, sister Molly Case and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meeteetse. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
