Shirley Ione Werbelow

Shirley Ione Werbelow, 70, of Powell, died at the Spirit Mountain Hospice in Cody on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.

Shirley was born Jan. 17, 1943 in Lewiston, Idaho to Horace David and Margaret Isabel (Watkins) Clements. 

Shirley lived in California and Washington State for many years. One of the joys of her life was spending time with children, and she taught fourth-graders in Tacoma, Wash., for 28 years. She tutored many children as well. She enjoyed landscaping and collecting bears. 

Shirley met Pete Werberlow, and they were married on July 7, 2007 at Kent, Wash. They moved to Powell in 2007.

Shirley attended the First Baptist Church in Powell and helped with their AWANA program, working with children. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley was a lifelong Republican and worked for the Barry Goldwater presidential campaign as well as the Ronald Reagan for President Campaign.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Pete Werbelow of Powell; son Sam Rama of Washington and grandson, Sam Rama, Jr. of Washington; four stepchildren: Richard Werbelow of Billings, Troy Werbelow and Teresa Werbelow, both of Gillette, and Leeann Werbelow of Albuquerque, N.M.; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials in Shirley’s name can be sent to the First Baptist Church, 550 Kattenhorn Drive, Powell, WY 82435.  Proceeds will go to the AWANA program.

Memorial services were held Monday, Feb. 4 at the First Baptist Church in Powell, with Pastor Jon Allen as officiant. Graveside services followed at the Emblem Cemetery in Emblem.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
