Mildred ‘Millie’ Hyder

Mildred “Millie” Hyder, formerly of Aberdeen, Miss., died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was 84.

Millie was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Pennington Gap, Va. She attended college at University of the Cumberlands, Ky., majoring in education, after which she taught school for several years in Tennessee. She married Bert Hampton Hyder, Jr., June 8, 1950.

They later moved to San Antonio, Texas, and then to Aberdeen, Miss., where they raised their two children, Hampton and India. Millie eventually retired from the Mississippi Welfare Department. Millie and Bert have lived in Cody, under the care of their daughter, for almost three years.

Millie was very involved in her home church, First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, Miss., for many years. She was instrumental in her Sunday school class and provided care for many elderly members. She was known as a great “prayer warrior” and for sharing the message of the gospel whenever she had the opportunity. She moved her membership to Yellowstone Baptist Church after moving to Cody.

She is survived by her brother, Johnny Skaggs of Kingsport, Tenn.; husband, Bert Hampton Hyder, Jr. formerly of Aberdeen, Miss.; son, Bert Hampton Hyder III of Pelham, Ala.; daughter, India Gayle (Hyder) King of Cody; grandsons Hyder King of Cody and Johnathon King of Billings, Mont.; granddaughters Amy (Hyder) Saunders and Brandi (Hyder) Cummins, both of Pelham, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren, all in Pelham, Ala.

Millie will be greatly missed. Her memorial service, officiated by Pastor Mike McKnight, will be held at Yellowstone Baptist Church, Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to Yellowstone Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1297, Cody, WY 82414.
