Elmer Roy Eggebrecht, 79, of Oak Harbor,Wash., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 in Kingman, Ariz., Regional Hospital after a short illness.

Elmer was born May 28, 1933 in Vida, Mont., to William Eggebrecht and Ida Knopp Eggebrecht. He was schooled in Powell for 11 1/2 years, where he played football and was instrumental in initiating heavyweight wrestling, taking the state championship. He graduated in Othello, Wash., where he took top honors in wrestling and later placed in the Sports Hall of Fame for that state.

He served and retired with 20-plus years in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, First Class. He married Harriet Huffman in 1954.

Elmer is survived by two sons, Dusty (Brenda) of Saucier, Miss., and Rocky (Michelle) of Oak Harbor, Wash;. two daughters, Sandie (William) Lain from Abilene, Texas and Star Eggebrecht from Concrete, Wash.; an older brother, Ervin (Sandy), from Renton,Wash.; two younger sisters, Betty (Charles) Smith of Corinth, Miss., and Ella Mae (Charles) Bates of Golden Valley, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Interment will take place at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Anacortes, Wash.
