Gerald Jacobs, 82, of Cody, died peacefully at Spirit Mountain Hospice on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012.

He was born Feb. 19, 1930 in Columbia, Tenn., to John and Olive Jacobs. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force in February 1951 and served until February 1955. He served during the Korean War.

While stationed at the Amarillo Air Force Base, Gerald met the love of his life, Glenna Branum. They were married on Aug. 14, 1954 in Amarillo, Texas. They honeymooned at Yellowstone National Park, which later led them to move to the home of their dreams in Cody.

Upon Gerald’s discharge from the service, they moved to Tennessee, where he was a farmer for 11 years. In 1966 they moved back to Amarillo, where he became a computer programmer at Western Data Systems where he created the first ATM program for Amarillo National Bank. In 1980, Gerald and Glenna moved to Cody, where he worked for Husky Oil Company until he retired.

Gerald enjoyed motorcycle riding, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling in their RV and was an active member of their church.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, numerous brothers and sisters and grandsons Kelly Hawkins and Charles Jacobs.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Glenna; children: Betty (Ray) Demonbreum, Richard (Jo) Jacobs, Roger (Donna) Jacobs, Russell (Wendy) Jacobs, Donna (Billy) Hawkins and Randy (Beverley) Jacobs; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gerald is also survived by one brother, Charles Jacobs, and sister, Annie Dorris Priest.

He was loved and will be missed by many.

Funeral services were held at New Hope Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 28. He was laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post 2673 Honor Guard.
