Heber ‘Bart’ Howard Hart

Heber “Bart” Howard Hart, 71, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Spirit Mountain Hospice House in Cody with Lois at his side.

Heber, the oldest son of Howard and Ethel Hart, was born on July 15, 1941 in Lovell.

Heber was raised on the family farm outside of Powell and graduated from Powell High School where he was very active in the FFA.

After attending Northwest College, Heber enlisted into the United States Navy in January 1960.

Heber was very proud to be a “plank owner” of the USS Richmond K. Turner DLG-20. He served five Vietnam campaigns from 1965-68. His shipmates became his lifelong friends. Heber was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in December 1968.

After serving his country, he returned to the famliy farm. Heber drove over the road truck and took great pride in his freightliner that was leased to Dick Jones Trucking. He helped others in learning to drive truck and getting their commercial driver’s license.

Heber returned to the farm and continued to farm until his retirement. He was honored to be a member of the President’s Club of Western Sugar at the Starr Station.

Heber was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 2303 being a past exalted ruler, trustee and secretary. He was a member of the Bronze Circle of Giving of the Elks National Foundation. Heber was a member of the American Legion Hughes Pittinger Post 26 for 32 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars James S. McDonald Post 5054. He served as commander, quarter master and service officer of the post. He was commander of Wyoming District 1 and National Aide-De-Camp. Heber was very proud being service officer and assisting other veterans in getting their benefits and living the VFW motto: “We honor the dead by helping the living.”

Heber married Lois on Dec. 31, 1986 and he was a wonderful addition to the family. Heber and Lois were big time NASCAR fans and spent many happy and treasured times together watching and talking NASCAR. Anyone who knew Heber was very much aware he was a Dale Earnhardt fan and went on to be a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Some of his greatest memories were of attending races in Phoenix, Talladega and Bristol.

Heber will be loved and greatly missed by his family and friends.

Siblings are Pearl Ann, Barbara, Ila (deceased), Larry, Bill, Rhonda and numerous nieces and nephews.

Heber is survived by son Michael (Debra) Hart; daughter Crystal Scott; special friend Trent Reed; adopted sons David, Dennis and Donald Hart; wife Lois; sons Richard (Marilyn) Lynch, Greg (Glenda) Lynch, Keith (Susan) Lynch; grandchildren Lauren Mary, Katelyn, Levi, Jessica, Lauren, Jena, Kelsey (Jake), Ben, Garrett; and great-grandsons Tristin and Carter.

The Heber Hart Memorial Fund for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks National Foundation-Veterans Remembrance has been set at First Bank of Wyoming, P.O. Box 907 in Powell.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.

Following the memorial service, family and friends are cordially invited to a luncheon served by the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW Post at 353 South Fair Street.
